Epic
What is Epic?
In addition to our classroom library, we’ll also be using Epic, which is a digital reading platform. Epic consists of a collection of 40,000+ books from 250+ of the world’s publishers. The available texts are targeted toward readers of age 12 and under and are used as an application on iPads in our K-4 classrooms. Teachers will develop Epic libraries for their class and students depending on grade level, units that are being taught, or by student interest, language, and reading level.
Parents/guardians with questions about these texts are welcome to contact their student’s teacher at any time. If a parent/guardian would like to review Epic and the books their students have access to, they may schedule a time to meet with the teacher and/or principal to review the application. At any time, if a parent/guardian prefers for their student not to have access to Epic, this can be communicated to the teacher. Epic can be removed from the student’s iPad and alternate books can be provided to the student.
Please see the following information to learn more about Epic and the FREE Epic parent/guardian account that can be linked to the school account.
How do I access a FREE Epic parent/guardian account?
At any time, a K-4 parent/guardian can reach out to their student’s teacher to connect to the school Epic account. This is done by sending a message to the teacher via the Epic website (https://www.getepic.com/). The parent/guardian connection will allow access to the student’s school account as well as access to one free book (the parent/guardian will then be prompted to pay for the “home” version if they are interested). The parent/guardian can click on “View Profile” which will allow the parent/guardian to view all of the books that were accessed by their student at school. If a parent/guardian would like to limit their student’s access to specific books, this will involve the parent/guardian reaching out to the teacher. The teacher is able to limit selected books to students as part of teacher accounts. Teachers can also set up individual Epic student libraries.
