All school bus drivers are governed by the regulations of the U.S. and Pennsylvania Departments of Transportation.
A school bus driver must:
- Hold a CDL license with a passenger endorsement and pass a physical examination.
- Take a 20-hour course, which includes a minimum of 14 hours in the classroom and six hours behind the wheel of a school bus.
- Receive a school bus endorsement to their CDL license.
- Must pass a Pennsylvania School Bus physical exam annually and be re-certified every four years. This includes seven hours of classroom instruction and three hours of behind the wheel experience.
Driving a van offers individuals the opportunity to operate nine-passenger vehicles on a part-time basis, with training offered through Brightbill Transportation.
